Rethinking the Fundamentals

Abstract

Sometimes, a new approach can be the best solution to an old problem, especially in the MIS department. This column examines two technologies –data compression and molecular computing – that offer MIS managers new, unusual approaches to solving old, familiar problems.

Thomas R. Elliott

Thomas R. Elliott is an independent consultant in Watertown MA, who focuses on information industry market research and marketing communications. For six years, he served as director of strategic business practices at International Data Corp, Framingham MA. Before that, he worked in corporate planning at Gulf Oil. He has an MS in management from the Sloan School at MIT and an AB from Harvard College.
