MIS Budget Cutbacks: Alternative Actions for MIS Managers

Abstract

Because most MIS managers face budget cutbacks at one time or another, they should be prepared to reduce certain departmental expenditures. This article presents the results of a survey in which 79 MIS managers ranked 18 alternative actions to reduce expenses, including elimination of external consultant assignments and reduction of end-user computing support.

M.B. Khan

M.B. Khan is an associate professor of information systems at California State University, Long Beach. His prior experience includes systems consulting for government and private businesses and software development management at Texas Instruments. His teaching and research interests are in information systems organization and decision support systems.

Sal Kukalis

Sal Kukalis is an assistant professor of management at California State University. Long Beach. He has a PhD in strategic management from the University of Arizona. He spent five years as a stock options analyst before joining the faculty of California State University.
