The Impact of Transborder Data Flow Regulation

Pages 70-73 | Published online: 14 Jun 2007

Abstract

Corporations that plan to successfully compete in the international arena must be prepared to handle transborder data flow issues. Recent advances in information and telecommunications technologies make the exchange of transnational information technically simple. However, multinational firms are frequently impeded in their efforts to perform these exchanges by government regulations, which are not uniform among all nations. This column discusses the advantages and disadvantages of transborder data flow regulation and its ultimate effect on multinational businesses.
