Pages 7-15 | Published online: 30 May 2007

Abstract

In the current economic climate, most businesses must struggle to maintain or enhance their competitive position. Information technology, which has become an integral part of the corporate infrastructure, is increasingly recognized as a competitive weapon in this struggle. The pace of technological change, however, demands a major ongoing commitment of corporate funds to planning and the acquisition of up-to-date equipment and expertise. This article examines how corporations can adopt an IT assessment cycle and a planning, development, and implementation cycle to ensure effective information technology acquisition and mobilization.
