Contributing to global literature on women’s health issues

Wishing Everyone a Healthy and Happy New Year!

Contributions in this issue are substantively related to childbirth. I supply this editorial to remind readers that all authors published in this journal should be contributing to global literature about women’s’ health issues. Many such issues surround the experience of childbirth.

In this first issue of our new volume, I present a table to explain how the authors whose work is included have met my expectations and those of our reviewers. There is one row in the table for each article published. In the first column of the table I identify the health issue addressed by authors in their article. In the second column I note how the authors provide theoretical, methodological, practice, and/or policy contributions to the global literature about women’s health issues. There must be at least one such contribution in every article. In the third column I present my opinion of how extensive the global contribution to the literature is. In the fourth column I present the location of the research for each of the articles in the table. I want readers to notice that the location of the research may be unrelated to the extent of the global contribution.

As I reflect on the new year, I hope the table will be used as a road map for commentaries and further research about childbirth. In addition, those who read these articles and examine the information in the table should be inspired to make their own theoretical, methodological, practice and policy contributions to a larger array of women’s health issues
