Abstract
This research investigates whether or not specific indicators appear more frequently in the House-Tree-Person drawings of sex offenders when compared to drawings of a control group. The goal of the research is to explore the use of an art-based assessment as a tool for the early identification of sex offenders. The art-based assessment may also serve as a guide to assist therapists in developing the treatment focus.
Participants in this study included individuals with documented histories of perpetrating sexual abuse (N = 46) and a control group (N = 44), all between the ages of 12 and 23.
Three indicators appeared in the drawings of sex offenders at the statistically significant .05 level; an additional three indicators revealed strong trends (1, p<.10). Other indicators in the artwork of the sex offender population also suggested patterns that merit further study.
