Benefits of Conducting Research

Pages 134-141 | Published online: 22 Apr 2011

Abstract

Metaphors for researchers, such as a "hunter/gatherer" (Kapitan, 1998), a crusader, a traveler, an explorer, a miner, an astronaut, a biblical Daniel, a Samurai, and an archaeologist, are discussed. The archetypes of the goddesses Athena and Diana are also explored as role models for doing research. Benefits of conducting research are enumerated, including building the knowledge base for art therapy, increasing professional opportunities, improving client care, advancing the collective understanding of art therapy, and working as part of a team. Additionally, some of the challenges of implementing research are noted. Grant writing as research is also addressed.
