Student Mental Health and Funding Constraints: A Delicate Balance

Pages 43-46 | Published online: 24 Mar 2010

Abstract

A wide range of serious psychiatric disorders that would be progressive if untreated was observed during the first 9 months of a 1-year psychotherapy fellowship at the student health center of a major New England university. This finding underscores the cost benefits, in both human and financial terms, of having a multidisciplinary mental health center staff on campus to provide timely, intensive, and comprehensive interventions.
