Reuben Hersh
Reuben Hersh was born in the Bronx in 1927. He earned a B.A. with honors in English literature at Harvard in 1946. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics at the Courant Institute in 1962, under Peter Lax, with a thesis on hyperbolic partial differential equations. Presently, he is a professor at the University of New Mexico. His article, “Hilbert's Tenth Problem,” coauthored with Martin Davis, won a Chauvenet Prize. His book, The Mathematical Experience, coauthored with Philip J. Davis, won a National Book Award.
