Nuclear arms for Iraq

Pages 28-33 | Accepted 29 Sep 1994, Published online: 22 Oct 2007

Abstract

This paper discusses documentary evidence that the UK government was aware that some of the components sold to Iraq by Matrix Churchill were likely to be used in the manufacture of nuclear weapons, and in permitting the sales were in breach of Article I of the Non‐Proliferation Treaty. The reasons for permitting the sales and the possibility of the issue being discussed in the Scott Report are considered.
