Abstract
A report of the first visit by a Soviet delegation from the Main Administration of Geodesy and Cartography to the People's Republic of China in 30 years provides interesting information about the organization of surveying and mapping activities in that country: the number of geodesists and cartographers employed in the PRC, the major state organizations responsible for surveying and mapping work, the extent of coverage by topographic maps at varying scales and geodetic networks of different types, the major institutions responsible for topographic and geodetic training, and current levels of domestic production of geodetic and photogrammetric equipment.
