OPTICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MULTILAYERED CLOUD COVER FROM SPACE

Abstract

A method is described for determining the optical characteristics (attenuation coefficient, transparency) of multi-layered cloud formations from space. It is based on obtaining local reference values of the characteristics to be determined from recorded signals and correction of these signals according to the degree of change in the qualitative composition of the scattering medium in the layers. The need to determine reference values for the measured parameters within each layer is precluded. The results of numerical modeling of the developed method are presented, revealing its effectiveness.
