Sensible virtual selves: Bodies, instruments and the becoming-concrete of Music

Abstract

This article employs the concept of ‘virtuality,’ as developed by Gilles Deleuze, to offer a new analysis of the relationship between musicians and their instruments. Other topics touched upon include the ontology of the musical work and the nature of musical subjectivity in general.
