“Accentuating the national aspect”: Social republicanism and the communist party of Ireland

Pages 73-84 | Published online: 19 Oct 2007

Abstract

The Communist Party of Ireland continues to survive against apparently overwhelming odds. While it has shown itself to be capable of adapting to changing political circumstances, the party's support has been declining in recent years. It has been, since 1970, committed to a socialist‐republican perspective on Ireland, and this may have contributed to its decline.
