The Power of identity and the end of patriarchy: reflections on Manuel Castells' book on the network society

Abstract

Starting with Castel's description of the network society the author examines the disintegration of the patriarchal family. A process that is dependent on the diversification of family types, the increasing amount of women in working life and the feminist movement. The changes in ideology and in the means of production influence the development of individuals. This is discussed with respect to Erikson's epigenetic diagram and Fromm's theory of a social character. These social processes also effect psychoanalytical theory especially how we understand female sexuality and perversions or neoesexuality.

Sjödin C. Die Macht der Identität und das Ende des Patriarchats: Reflektionen zu Manuel Castell's Buch über die Netzwerk-Gesellschaft

Von Castells Beschreibung der Netzwerk-Gesellschaft ausgehend untersucht der Autor die Desintegration der patriarchalen Familie. Es handelt sich um einen Prozeß, der von der Diversifikation von Familien-Typen abhängig ist, dem wachsenden Anteil von Frauen im Arbeitsleben sowie von der feministischen Bewegung. Die Wandlungen in der Ideologie und in den Produktionsmitteln beeinflussen die Entwicklung der Individuen. Dieses wird im Hinblick auf Erikson's epigenetisches Diagramm und Fromms Theorie des sozialen Charakters diskutiert. Solche sozialen Prozesse haben auch Auswirkung auf die psychoanalytische Theorie, besonders darauf, wie wir weibliche Sexualität und Perversionen oder Neosexualität verstehen.

Tomando como punto de partida la descripción de la Sociedad Network el autor examina la desintegración de la familia patriarcal. Un proceso que es dependiente de la diversificación de los tipos de familia (family-tipes) el aumento de las mujeres en la vida laboral y el movimiento feminista. Los cambios en ideología y en los medios de producción influyen en el desarrollo de los individuos. Se discute con respecto al diagrama epigenético de Erikson y el carácter social de la teoría de Fromm. Este proceso social también afecta a la teoría psicoanalítica especialmente como entendemos la sexualidad femenina y perversiones o neosexualidad.
