The Role of the Victorian Conservation Trust and the Value of Covenants

Pages 15-22 | Published online: 06 May 2008

Abstract

While the notion of a covenant has existed in the subdivision history of Victoria since the original allotment sales for the Melbourne ‘golden mile’, the potential role and application of covenants for cultural and natural heritage management and conservation has not been realized. This paper examines the role and function of the Victorian Conservation Trust in pioneering covenant use for natural heritage management in Victoria. It also draws in various examples in an attempt to set an agenda for the future.
