Abstract
In his most recent book. The Great Seesaw (1988) Geoffrey Blainey argues for the existence of a mental seesaw which has affected human attitudes and activities over the last two and fifty years. At one extreme angle of the seesaw lies a belief in nature, and at the other, belief in technology.
