Measurement of Shopping Centre Floorspace for Statistical, Planning and Architectural Purposes

Abstract

This paper examines the measurement of shopping centre floorspace in the belief that many current definitions are unclear. They distort town planning debates in which floorspacebearsuponthegrantingofdevelopmentapproval. More broadly, they have implications for statistical and commercial purposes. Means are suggested through which the difficulties of floorspace measurement can be validly and reliably overcome.
