Samuel Arnold, Obi; or three-finger'd Jack

Pages 78-79 | Published online: 24 Nov 2011

Abstract

This latest volume in the Music for London Entertainment 1660-1800 series makes accessible another gem from the English theatre repertory. Obi; or Three-Finger'd Jack was billed for its premiere at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in 1800 as a ‘Grand Pantomimical Drama’. This facsimile of the piano-vocal arrangement of Samuel Arnold's music for this production takes its place among the other valuable volumes in Stainer and Bell's ongoing project of facsimile publications of incidental music, opera (in both English and Italian), and masques, pantomimes, dance music, and vocal music.
