Abstract
The phrase ‚and His Contemporaries‘ in the title of this set of collected essays functions as a catch-all for the handful of papers that have crashed Szymanowski's party, having little to do directly with the songs of that great Polish composer. Were this volume restricted to Szymanowski and his songs, it would be somewhat thinner than it is, and the title wouldn't limp lamely onto a third line (complete with apologetic smaller font).
