Una Mirada al Hispanoamericanismo en el Siglo XIX: Las Observaciones de José María Samper

Resumen

Los lazos que existen entre España y Latinoamérica tienen aspectos de continuidad y de cambios que pueden percibirse en la formas que asume la noción de hispanoamericanismo y de las imágenes recíprocas que hay entre España y Latinoamérica durante el siglo XIX. Pero el análisis de estas caracterizaciones tiende a privilegiar las políticas españolas y no tienen en cuenta las reacciones que ellas suscitaron en el ámbito americano. Por eso es importante explorar algunas discusiones sobre el hispanoamericanismo que se dieron en las décadas anteriores a 1880 y observar algunas reacciones americanas ante las propuestas de integración entre España y América. El trabajo explora las discusiones sobre el hispanoamericanismo en la revista La América entre 1857 y 1861; de esta forma, se puede vislumbrar cuáles fueron algunos marcos conceptuales a partir de los cuales se forjaron explicaciones sobre las condiciones sociales, históricas y culturales de las realidades latinoamericanas, más allá del esquema de los “modelos” y las “desviaciones”.

Abstract

The links that exist between Spain and Latin America have aspects of continuity and change that can be perceived in a form that assumes the concept of hispanoamericanismo and the reciprocal images that can be seen between Spain and Latin America during the 19th century. But the analysis of these characterizations tends to favour Spanish trends, and they do not take into account the reactions that they provoked in Latin America. Thus it is important to explore some discussions on hispanoamericanismo that took place in the decades before 1880 and to observe some Latin American reactions that occurred before the offers of integration between Spain and Latin America. This article explores the discussions on hispanoamericanismo in the magazine La América between 1857 and 1861. This exploration makes it possible to glimpse some of the conceptual frames from which were forged explanations of the social, historical, and cultural conditions of Latin American realities, beyond the scheme of the “models” and the “deviations.”
