Abstract

An original microwave (MW)—ultraviolet (UV) combined reactor has been developed. The MW-UV reactor has been designed for both solvent and dry media reactions and can treat a range of throughputs from 10 to 100 grams. This study presents the rearrangement of o-aroyloxyacetophenone and the degradation ofhwnic acid in aqueous solutions. The value of simultaneous irradiation by microwaves and ultraviolet light has been confirmed in both reactions. Microwave photochemistry is shown as a new technique for organic synthesis, waste water treatment, synthesis of polymers and food sterilization.
