Behind the Scenes III: Quality Control, Excellence, and the Construction of Knowledge

Pages 395-399 | Published online: 20 Nov 2009

Notes

1A clear candidate for an ethnographic—in the symbolic, speech-community-specific sense—term. Questions like “best according to whom? Best for what purposes, at the (potential) expense of what other outcomes/purposes?” have led the politically aware to switch to good practices. As with many self-aware terminology shifts, this alternative suffers from the usual lag between adoption and comprehensibility.

2A reviewer's comment to me I will remember forever, that prompted me to be somewhat more ready to refuse to send submissions out for review: “Kristine, is this the kind of work ROLSI is now considering for publication?”
