This issue marks the second of Immunological Investigations thematic issues. This issue concerns the theme, ”Physiological Aspects of Immune Regulation and Tumor Control.“ I am very pleased that Dr. Elizabeth Repasky was the organizer for this issue.

Elizabeth A. Repasky

Dr. Repasky received her doctorate from the Department of Anatomical Sciences, in the laboratory of B.S. Eckert at the University of Buffalo. Her postdoctoral training, in cell biology, was in the laboratory of Dr. Elias Lazarides at the California Institute of Technology. She was appointed Research Scientist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in 1983 in the Department of Immunology. Since that time she has made numerous contributions to the fields of cell biology and immunology, and in the development of tumor models for evaluation of novel cancer therapies. She has also made many contributions to the graduate training program at Roswell Park. Through her teaching and tireless efforts on committees and her helpful and mentoring nature she has been valuable to the community of scientists at Roswell. In 2004, she was named the “William Huebsch Professor of Immunology,” in 2003 she received the “I am Roswell” Award for the “Most Inspired and Inspiring Mentor,” and in 2002 she received an award from the Oncology Fellows for her “Scientific Contributions to Clinical Training.”

She has been the mentor for 19 post-doctoral fellows, 9 Ph.D. students, and 12 Masters students, an additional 4 Ph.D. students and 5 Masters students are currently training in her laboratory. She is currently a Project Leader on an NIH Program Project PO1 Grant entitled, “Heat shock protein and thermal therapy of cancer.” She is an author on 93 peer reviewed publications. I am pleased to have Dr. Repasky's organizing efforts, overview and article in this thematic issue.
