Carolyn Kitch is an assistant professor of journalism at Temple University, where she is also affiliated faculty in women’s studies and American studies ([email protected]). An earlier version of this article recevied the inaugural Maurine Beasley Award for Research in Women’s History at the 1999 American Journalism Historians Association Conference.
