Abstract
The changing nature of the world metals industry was the subject of a three-day meeting of experts from around the world. The conference, held in May, 1986 and sponsored by the United States Bureau of Mines and the Henry Krumb School of Mines of Columbia University, included sessions on: the current status of the industries; changes in metals demand; changes in metals supply and trade; implications for the private sector; and implications for the public sector. The article introduces the issues raised at the Arden House Conference.
