Abstract

Limiting currents were measured for the deposition of copper on plane vertical cathodes from copper sulphate and sulphuric acid system. The electrolyte composition ranged from 0.07334 to 0.6846 Kg mole/mJ Cu and from 0.4772 to 3.5301 Kg mole/m3 H2SO4. Cathode heights varied from 0.0125 to 0.04 m, interelectrode distance 0.04 to 0.115 m, temperature 30 to 60°C and electrolyte flow rate from 8.33 to 33.33 × 10-6 m3/s.

The results permit the calculation of the limiting current density under different electrolysis conditions and is compared with the literature values.
