The Control Aspects of Occupational Hand-Arm Vibration

Pages F-22-F-26 | Published online: 25 Feb 2011

Abstract

The control of occupational hand—arm vibration is essential if workers are to be protected from the often occurring adverse and irreversible effects of hand-arm vibration exposure. Control measures include the use of antivibration tools and gloves; recommended work practices; threshold limit values (TLVs) and other standards; medical monitoring and pre-screening of workers; education of all concerned; and the use of vibration engineering control techniques of damping and isolation. The foregoing are discussed and their interrelationships are presented in this article.
