Some problems of broadcasting: A report

Pages 111-118 | Published online: 18 May 2009

Over the past nine and a half years, the Journal has published dozens of articles on “Issues in Broadcasting.” Many different topics have been discussed, many problems have been “solved” and many new ones have arisen. In a manner of speaking, the problems of broadcasting define or delimit the industry itself. It is hard to know which problems are most bothering our immediate colleagues and the profession as a whole. To find out, a recent survey of Journal subscribers asked “What are the most important problems facing broadcasting and broadcasters today?” It is believed that the responses to that question are of vital interest to the readers of the Journal of Broadcasting, and are therefore presented here rather than in another publication. John M. Kittross earned the PhD. in the University of Illinois. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Telecommunications of the University of Southern California.
