The following study, based on funding from an NAB grant, describes the typical radio station manager and daily newspaper editor in communities of 10,000 population or less. Both types are essentially similar and see themselves as “strong local influentials”; deeply involved in bettering their communities. Editors and managers are active in community groups, involved in community affairs, and stress local news content in their media. That they are happy in their jobs and locale is evident by their own comments recorded below. Drs. Bohn and Clark are both presently assistant professors of speech at the University of Massachusetts. Bohn received the Ph.D. from Wisconsin in 1968; Clark from Ohio State in 1911.
