Two separate studies investigated viewer considerations of how to improve TV news, and whether viewers had taken action to try to improve TV news. The studies found that viewers do not want their news limited, whether by the government, the industry, or even concerned viewers. In a striking contradiction, respondents charged the viewers themselves with the responsibility for improving TV news, yet few had ever done anything, claiming their actions would have little effect.
