Candidate sound bites: Too much concern over length?

&
Pages 408-415 | Accepted 01 Feb 1995, Published online: 18 May 2009

Examinations of political candidate sound bites tend to focus only on their quantity and length. This study suggests that focus is incomplete. Here, analysis moves beyond the measure of sound bite length to also provide an assessment of their impact, as measured by their potential influence on voter behavior. Results indicate that bite length and impact are independent, suggesting further evaluation may be necessary as attempts to reform the election coverage process.
