Pages 424-430 | Published online: 11 Oct 2008

Abstract

For oft when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon my inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude.

(Wordsworth)

ABSTRACT. Uses a personal perspective to reflect on the varieties of challenges and satisfactions in teaching social work in several different countries; discusses the role of the teacher and the danger of obsessive adherence to any specific “models” of teaching. Makes a case for the teacher's presentation of self rather than reliance of technological devices.
