Abstract
Mental retardation is a worldwide phenomenon. Consequently, practitioners and scientists from many countries are concerned about this cross‐cultural social issue. This article presents to the international community an overview and analysis of selected topics and trends affecting children and adults with mental retardation in the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.

Le retard mental étant un phénomène mondial, il s'ensuit que les praticiens et scientifiques de nombreux pays se penchent sur ce problème d'order social et inter‐culturel. Cet article presente à la communauté internationale un examen et une analyse d'un certain nombre de thèmes et de tendences qui touchent enfants et adultes atteints de retard mental dans la Republique Fédérale Tchèque et Slovaque.
ZUSAMMENFASSUNG
Die Mentalretardation ist ein Phänomen der ganzen Welt. Infolge dessen sind die Praktiker und Wissenschaftler vieler Länder um dieses soziale interkulturelle Problem bersorgt. Dieser Artikel will der internationalen Gemeinde die übersicht und Analyse der auserwähnten Themen und Richtungen vorlegen, die Kinder und Erwachsenen mit Mentalretardation in CSFR beinflussen.
