Development and evaluation of a video test for the assessment of interviewing skills

Abstract

The learning of interviewing skills is an important aspect of medical education. In courses in interviewing skills, students practice communicating appropriately with patients. At many medical schools, standardized patients are used to assess students’ interviewing skills. Since the standardized‐patient examination is expensive and time‐consuming, the authors devised a more efficient video test. Investigations show that the video test is reliable and valid.
