ABSTRACT
This report describes a case of arthrogryposis multiplex congenita and concomitant bruxism with limited mouth opening and pain in the temporomandibular joints (TMJ). A conservative treatment with a myorelaxing splint and physiotherapeutic exercises was prescribed resulting in improvement to the muscular and joint conditions and a reduction in pain.

Dr. Cláudia Monteiro de Andrade received her D.D.S. degree in 1993 from the Federal University of Maranhão, Brazil. She is currently a dental surgeon-in-training at the Faculty of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, Brazil.
Takami Hirono Hotta
Dr. Takami Hirono Hotta received her D.D.S. degree in 1986 from the Bauru School of Dentistry, University of São Paulo, Brazil. She received an M.D. degree in 1998 from the Faculty of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo. Since 1990, she has been involved in clinical practice and research in temporomandibular disorders. Currently, Dr. Hotta is a professor at the University of Franca and is pursuing a Ph.D. in oral rehabilitation at the Faculty of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto. She also serves on the Staff of TMJ Disorders Service, Department of Dentistry, University of São Paulo.
Marcelo Oliveira Mazzetto
Dr. Marcelo Oliveira Mazzetto received his D.D.S. degree in 1980 from the Faculty of Dentistry of Uberaba, Brazil He receive his PhD. in 1987 from the Faculty of Dentistry of Araraquara, Brazil Currently, he is a professor at the University of São Paulo and University of Franca and is involved in research in articular disorders. Dr. Mazzetto is also on the Staff of TMJ Disorders Service, Department of Dentistry, University of São Paulo.
Cláudia Maria de Felício
Dr. Cláudia Maria de Felício obtained an undergraduate degree in speech and language pathology and audiology from the University Catholic of Campinas, Brazil in 1983. She received a Master in education from the University Federal of São Carlos in 1992 and in 1996, a PhD. in science (psychobiology) from the Faculty of Philosophy, Science and Letters, University of São Paulo. She is also on the Staff of TMJ Disorders Service, Department of Dentistry, University of São Paulo.
Angela Bataglion
Angela Bataglion received an undergraduate degree in physical therapy in 1986 from the University Federal of São Carlos, Brazil. She is also on the Staff of TMJ Disorders Service, Department of Dentistry, University of São Paulo.
