The Pilgrimage Town of Lourdes

Abstract

Pilgrims from 111 different countries cause the character of spatial phenomena in Lourdes, France. The influence of the pilgrimage is first reflected in demographic developments and then in the economic structure, which has been transformed from the agricultural to the service sector. The pilgrims' activities are also responsible for the distribution of different buildings such as various places of worship, hotels, restaurants and shops selling devotional articles.
