Abstract
Reverse migration has contributed to the proliferation of rural residential development in many parts of nonmetropolitan America. In Douglas County, Oregon, distinctive rural residential landscapes have emerged that reflect a number of popular altitudes toward the treatment of landscape. These landscapes contrast with those of suburbia and represent an idiosyncratic synthesis of urban and rural elements.
