Systems Development in Mis Research: Roles, Approaches and Strategies

Pages 13-17 | Published online: 01 Feb 2016

Abstract

One way to explore and demonstrate new research ideas is through developing innovative information systems. This paper suggests that systems development research projects seek either to develop and prove new mathematical formalisms, define new methods for solving systems-related problems, or create new and innovative products for addressing organizational needs. We summarize the required activities for research projects in each area, analyze emerging approaches for guiding method- and product-driven research, and provide guidelines for identifying and defining potential systems development research projects.
