Abstract
Using a collection of MIS issues that have appeared in a series of MIS Quarterly articles, this study surveyed a sample of CIOs at publicly traded companies to determine each issue's importance. The top-ranked issues turned out to be aligning the IS organization with the enterprise, competitive advantage, data resources, end user computing, and strategic planning. A factor analysis found an underlying three-factor structure for the issues. The three factors were IS functional leadership, IS advocacy, and software. Software was less important than the first two factors. These results have implications for researchers, teachers, and practitioners.
