Assessment in On-Line CIS Courses

Pages 16-20 | Published online: 01 Feb 2016

Abstract

Assessment is an important topic in today's educational environments. A challenge for those teaching in the Information Systems (IS) field is to come up with adequate assessment procedures that can be documented and that provide a good measure of what the students have learned. When teaching a computer-related course on-line, the problem becomes one of providing an assessment that does more than simply test rote memorization. Subjective testing is problematic in on-line courses for two reasons: appropriateness to the subject and the problem of identifying who is taking the test. Many web sites are available that provide alternative methods of assessment for on-line and on-campus courses. As faculty, we need to investigate these alternatives to the traditional methods of assessment.
