Hold me; heal me: Providing a holding environment through the use of poetry therapy

Abstract

The use of poetry therapy is examined through the lens of the holding environment of attachment theory. The process of reading and writing poetry, as well as the finished product of poetry, is seen as providing a holding environment within which healing can occur.
