Abstract

Animal cells can be grown in different reactors. An Eppstein‐Barr‐Virus (EBV) transformed human B‐cell line was cultivated for the antibody production in two different reactor systems: First, in a well mixed reactor equipped with a double membrane stirrer and an ultrafiltration module for antibody retention and second, in a hollow fibre cartridge reactor. Their performance in respect to antibody production was compared according to the antibody yield per liter medium consumed. The best yield was obtained in the well mixed reactor, where the micro‐invironment of the cells can be considered as uniform for all cells.
