R&D Programmes of the European communities in biotechnology and related areas

The research programme BRIDGE ‐ Biotechnology Research for Innovation, Development, and Growth in Europe ‐ the “successor of BEP (Biomolecular Engineering Programme 1982–1986) and BAP (Biotechnology Action Programme 19858–1989) will be divided as BAP was in two actions: Action I, research and training, and Action II, concertation. Action I, will be subdivided into four sectors: information infrastructures, enabling technologies, cellular biology, pre‐normative research. Action II will cover a range of monitoring, information and collaborative activities to facilitate the application of biotechnology in the EC and in the member states. The programme, tentative budget 100 M ECU, is foreseen to run from 1990 to 1994.

Related programmes are ECLAIR (European Collaborative Linkage of Agriculture and Industry through Research) 1988–1993 with a budget of 85 M ECU and FLAIR (Food Linked Agro‐Industrial Research) 1989–1993 with a budget of 25 M ECU.
