Ernesto Cardenal

Ernesto Cardenal, one of Latin America's most renowned poets, whose work has been translated into more than a dozen languages, was born in Granada, Nicaragua, in 1925. He is the recipient of the Premio Iberoamericano de Poesía Pablo Neruda (2009) and the Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana (2012). His more recent works include Cántico cósmico (1989), Vida perdida (1999), and Pluriverse: New and Selected Poems (2009). This poem was previously published in The Origin of Species and Other Poems (2011)

John Lyons

John Lyons is a poet, journalist, and musician; he has translated various works by Ernesto Cardenal and other Spanish-language poets
