Astrid Cabral

Astrid Cabral (b. 1936, Manaus, Brazil) is a poet, critic, novelist, and diplomat who made a precocious literary debut with the celebrated Alameda in 1963. She has been one of the leading figures in the Amazonian cultural identity recovery movement, and her work has invited comparisons to masters of the Modernist movement such as Drummond de Andrade and Jorge de Lima. A well-known eco-activist, she is the author of numerous volumes of short stories and poetry, including Cage (2006; 2008), translated by Alexis Levitin

Alexis Levitin

Alexis Levitin's many translations include books by Clarice Lispector, Eugenio de Andrade, and Salgado Maranhão, in addition to Astrid Cabral. His most recent book is Brazil: A Traveler's Literary Companion (2010)
