Rafael Toriz (Xalapa, Mexico, 1983), who lives in Buenos Aires, is an essayist and fiction writer. He has published the illustrated bestiary Animalía (2008), the short story collection Metaficciones (2008), a volume of essays, Del furor y el desconsuelo (2012), and the generically hybrid work La ciudad alucinada (2013). He is a recipient of the prestigious Carlos Fuentes and Alfonso Reyes awards in Mexico.
