Arturo Fontaine

Arturo Fontaine (Chile, 1952) is a novelist, poet, and essayist. Among his works are Oír su voz (1992; Hearing Her Voice); Cuando éramos inmortales (Santiago de Chile: Alfaguara, 1998; When We Were Immortal; an extract from chapter 19 appears below); Mis ojos y tus ojos (2007; My Eyes and Your Eyes); and La vida doble (2010; La Vida Doble: A Novel, 2013). He teaches at the University of Chile and Universidad Diego Portales, and is a member of the Board of Chile’s Museum of Memory and Human Rights.
