Introducing and Teaching Netball for Secondary Physical Education Students

Abstract

There are many team sport activities that students participate in their K-12 physical education (PE) classes, such as basketball, volleyball, flag football and softball. Throughout the world there are other team sports that are enjoyable and beneficial for those who participate in them, such as netball. Netball has a greater popularity in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and other countries. In the United States, netball is not widely played and even not much is known about the game. The purpose of this article is to introduce grades 6-12 physical educators in the United States to the game of netball. The article will discuss basic rules of netball, drill/activities students can participate in to get them ready for game play and the benefits of netball.
