Abstract
The use of NMR and XAFS in characterising solids is described by the use of several examples. The examples are taken mainly from studies of ionic solids and include systems where the interpretation of the experimental data has strongly relied on guidance from the results of computer simulation studies. The examples include the study of diffusion in solids by NMR, structural studies of oxides by 17O MAS-NMR and the location of dopant sites by EXAFS.
